The Screen Actors Guild Awards have just had their 25th annual ceremony with some unexpected wins. This year’s big winner for the awards was for Black Panther, winning Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Best Stunt Performance in an Action Film. This proves to be a huge win for the comic book movie as many are proclaiming how a superhero film with its diverse casting and themes such as Black Panther is getting noticed for awards season. Star of the title character, Chadwick Boseman, stated at the ceremony, “We knew that we had something special, that we could create a world that exemplified a world that we wanted to see.”
Others big winners of the night included Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody and Glenn Close in The Wife for leading Actor and Actress. Alongside for supporting roles were Mahershala Ali for Green Book and Emily Blunt for A Quiet Place. With many of these movies including Black Panther being up for major Oscars, their wins at the SAG Awards will help boost their chances at the Academy big time.
