‘Orphan 3’ Officially Confirmed: Esther’s Chilling Legacy

Orphan 3 has officially been confirmed, bringing back its original star, Isabelle Fuhrman, along with Orphan: First Kill’s writer, David Coggeshall, and director, William Brent Bell. This announcement is certainly thrilling news for fans of the franchise who have been on the edge since the release of the original Orphan in 2009.

Orphan (2009) introduced us to Esther, a mysterious and angelic nine-year-old girl who concealed sinister secrets. Led by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard, the film follows a grieving couple who adopted Ester only to discover her dark past and the deadly consequences. The prequel, Orphan: First Kill (2022) showed a glimpse into Ester’s history, detailing her escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and her impersonation of a missing child in America. Both of these films grossed $125 million worldwide and made the franchise a thrilling staple of horror.

Now, Orphan 3 promises to delve even deeper into Esther’s twisted psyche. According to Variety, the project will be launched at the American Film Market, with Lionsgate backing its distribution. The specific plot details have not yet been released but WIlliam Brent Bell hinted that the third installment will explore gaps in Esther’s timeline.

Isabelle Fuhrman’s return as Esther is key to the franchise’s ongoing success. Fuhrman, who delivered an unforgettable performance in both previous films, continues to showcase her range as an actress. From her role as Clove in The Hunger Games to her performance in The Novice (2021) and her part in the Western epic Horizon: An American Saga (2024–present), Fuhrman has proven herself a versatile talent in Hollywood.

WIlliam Brent Bell is no stranger to creating unsettling horror narratives. His portfolio includes The Boy series, The Devil Inside, and Wer. His ability to balance suspense, drama, and psychological terror positions him perfectly to expand on Esther’s story.

Commercially, the Orphan franchise has faced mixed reviews, with critics describing the film as predictable. In order for Orphan 3 to stand out, it will need to push past its predecessors’ limitations, offer a fresh narrative, and explore a deeper dive into Esther’s character.

Although the stakes are high, the creative team and talent behind Orphan 3 appears prepared to deliver another compelling addition to the franchise. Are you ready to return to the dark and twisted world of Orphan?
