Olivier Assayas is hard at work on a new film called E-book, which he describes as a project based “how we adapt or don’t adapt to the way the world’s changing.” Assayas also explains that the genre of the film will be based in “comedy,” which will help lend a more complex tone to the film. While there is a thread of humor involved in the confusion with the many unusual alterations in technology, it seems like Assayas also intends to explore the difficulties implied in the adjustment to a rapidly progressing world. Taking place in France, the film will explore the publishing industry and all of the new societal changes which affect it.
Assayas has already created a good number of well-received films, such as The Clouds of Sils Maria; Paris, je t’aime; and Personal Shopper. Assayas is known for industry-based stories with twist, tackling Hollywood in Clouds of Sils Maria, and fashion in Personal Shopper. He also tends to be very involved in the making of his movies, often working as both writer and director. Assayas will be teaming up with actors like Guillaume Canet (Love Me if You Dare), Christa Theret (Renoir), Pascal Gregory (Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train), and Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), who he worked with while making The Clouds of Sils Maria as well as on several of his other films.
Currently there is no announced release date for the film.
