Olivia Wilde To Direct Kerri Strug Biopic ‘Perfect’

Olivia Wilde is retuning to the director’s chair, as the actress and Booksmart director is set to head a biopic surrounding the life of Kerri Strug titled Perfect, according to Deadline.

Wilde’s biopic will be primarily based on the semi-autobiography Landing On My Feet, A Diary Of Dreams by Strug and John P. Lopez, which takes readers on a journey through the events of the famous gymnast’s gold medal victory for Team USA during the 1996 Olympics. Following her triumph, Strug was heralded as an American icon for she vigorously completing her final vault during the Atlanta games with a highly injured ankle.

Strug has since been celebrated for her fortitude and tremendous efforts. Some of the most timeless photographs in sports feature Strug, particularly one where she went to the podium to accompany her team. Strug became a national sensation following the Olympics, visiting the White House to meet President Clinton in 1996 and making the front cover of Sports Illustrated as some moments to note.

Coming off the success of her winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature in Booksmart, Wilde will be going to Berlin to negotiate a buyer for the project. Meanwhile, casting will commence for the film, though it’s currently unknown whether or not Wilde will have a physical role.
