From writer-director Noah Baumbach, the man behind the indie breakthroughs The Squid and the Whale, Greenberg, and Frances Ha, comes a film about a middle-aged couple– played by Naomi Watts and Ben Stiller– whose lives get turned upside down after meeting another, significantly younger couple portrayed by GIRLS’ Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables).
Ever since collaborating with Baumbach on 2010’s Greenberg, Stiller has taken a back seat from the dark comedy scene, choosing instead to act as producer for similarly toned films, such as Richard Ayoade’s Submarine and David Frankel’s The Big Year. It should be a treat for fans of his darker fare to see him step back in front of the camera with Watts, who has established herself as a dark comedy asset, with her latest role in this year’s Birdman. Coupled with the presence of Seyfried and rising star Driver–who will soon appear in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens— will most likely draw in an eager audience.
The film opened to positive reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival this year and was quickly picked up by A24 films. It will be released in the U.S. on March 27, 2015.
