Neon released the final trailer for upcoming horror Shelby Oaks yesterday, two days before the month of its release.
Trailer #2 is significantly shorter than the first one, which was released on August 4th. It also reveals far more of the found footage parts of the film, an aspect that is central to the plot. Showing quick, startling cuts that jump from the found footage to an array of standard horror imagery (bloody arm, deserted prison, supernatural wolf?), the trailer focuses less on plot and more on shock.
The film, written and directed by YouTube film critic Chris Stuckmann, follows Mia Brennan (Camille Sullivan) as she searches for his sister, Riley (Sarah Durn), who disappeared 12 years ago. Riley was a paranormal investigator who left behind footage of her research. Mia forms a precarious relationship with a man who shows her one of Riley’s missing tapes, following the lead to horrific conclusions.
Shelby Oaks has received mixed reviews from critics. IGN’s Katie Rife praised Stuckmann’s portrayal of the found footage and development of tension in the film. RogerEbert.com’s Brian Tallerico, on the other hand, argued that Stuckmann’s techniques become repetitive.
Shelby Oaks will reach theaters on October 24th. Check out the latest trailer below.
