Sigourney Weaver (Copycat, Alien 3) sits down at New York Comic-Con during panel hosted by Josh Horowitz (Charlie Rose, Junketeers) of Happy Sad Confused to discuss her works in films, more notably her role in the Alien franchise. Weaver talks about her time during the creation of the science fiction film and her experiences on later films.
Weaver spoke about working with Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner), James Cameron (The Terminator, Titanic) and David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) and how the franchise was in good hands with each director who had a hand in shaping the universe. She took time to talk about the new Alien: Earth series and how she met some of the cast during the convention and how she enjoyed the series as well as the previous film Alien: Romulus.
During the panel, Weaver was surprised as Horowitz brought out Veronica Cartwright (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Birds), who also starred in Alien, which, although she called a B film, shaped not only a large cult following but many films to come for the genre. Together, they reminisce on how it was working on the set and how everything on set was made by hand, from the costumes to even the set designs. Although the sets were realistic, the cast was never allowed to touch the buttons on the ship; instead, they pretended to press fake ones that were given to them. Cartwright stated that although the Xenomorph in the film was horrifying, it was very practical how it was able to move and maneuver without any CGI.
Weaver also took the time to reminisce over other roles she had taken in the science fiction genre. She shared how, in the Ghostbusters film, due to how it was described in the script, she attempted to act like dog just to later find out they were just going to transform her into one during the film. She takes time to go over her role in the Avatar franchise and how the third film will be much darker and will further develop her character’s past.
