That’s right, Kellan Lutz has some momentum going in his post-Twilight-saga career. Along with a role in the upcoming Expendables 3, Lutz is starring in two fantasy-action films. Oddly enough, both are based on classic heroes – one on the King of the Apes, Tarzan, and the other on half-god super-strong-man Hercules. You may be asking, how does Mr. Lutz find the time for all this acting? Well, that brings us to the first trailer.
In Tarzan (or Tarzan 3D as its known in some places) you won’t actually be seeing Lutz, just hearing his voice, as the movie is a CG animated affair. The film was already released in Germany in October – it was produced by German studio – but it’s being primed for a release in English-speaking countries, and has new trailer to get it started. This is the latest in a long line of Tarzan adaptations (Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original novel was published in 1912) but the filmmakers are putting their own spin on the pulp-era creation. Tarzan resembles more of a modern superhero – not only is he younger, his nemesis has been changed from a big-game hunter to a criminal mastermind/head of an evil corporation.
Unique twist on a dated character, or an easy cash in on current trends? Watch the trailer, and decide for yourself.
Next up, we’ve got Hercules: The Legend Begins. As we’ve said before, this is one of two new Hercules films – the other, Hercules: The Thracian Wars stars Dwayne Johnson – both set for a 2014 release. While the Johnson film will depict an older, battle-weary Hercules, the Lutz-helmer is more of an origin story for the legendary Greek hero (think of them as Disney’s Hercules (1997) divided into two movies).
Is anyone having flashbacks to 1998, that brief pocket of time when Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Young Hercules aired concurrently?
