We are less than a month away until Count Orlok returns to haunt theater screens once again after his first appearance more than a century ago. The Robert Eggers-directed Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 German film of the same name. Eggers’ take is described as a gothic “tale of obsession” and is slated to release on Christmas Day. The film is already receiving early praise, including impressive reviews from the likes of renowned figures in the horror community.
Jason Blum of Blumhouse Pictures recently took to X to comment on the production of a film like Nosferatu. He wrote: “I love making horror movies and when a big budgeted horror movie comes along, I can’t wait to see it. I got a chance to see Nosferatu and wow does it have craft coming out of its ears.” He then went on to praise editor Louise Ford, who was also involved in an upcoming Blumhouse sequel. “I am especially grateful that its editor @LouLouFord is currently working with @scottderrickson on BLACK PHONE 2. Congrats to all involved in Nosferatu.”
After another screening earlier this month, Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez also proclaimed his love for Nosferatu online, citing it as his “favorite movie” of 2024. It’s safe to predict that the seals of approval from two well-known figures in the modern horror space is more than a good sign indicating that Nosferatu should deliver on all accounts.
Nosferatu stars Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Emma Corrin. Iconic creature actor Bill Skarsgård will play the title role of the vampire Count Orlok. Eggers views the original film as one of the most influential in his career; he has cited the film as a passion project of his.
Nosferatu releases in theaters December 25, 2024.
