Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is making a name for itself at the holiday box office. It is already among the highest grossing horror films in 2024, and that is just in the five days that it has been out in theaters.
Debuting on Christmas day, it has remained competitive and continued to draw crowds during this lucrative season. It broke Focus Features records domestically and is already Eggers’ biggest hit at the domestic box office. It currently sits at an 86% on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
According to estimates, it has already made $40 million. It is already the sixth biggest horror of 2024, bounding ahead of movies like Speak No Evil, Imaginary, Heretic, and The First Omen.
It is still going strong and will likely overtake Terrifier 3 (The highest grossing unrated film of all time) and enter the top five horror hits of this year.
Eggers will likely break his own personal records as well. His breakout film, The Witch, earned $40 million worldwide, while his most recent historical epic, The Northman, earned around $70 million. While these are respectable numbers indeed, it is likely that Nosferatu will make upwards of $100 million if it continues at its current pace. It will be exciting to see just how far it goes.
