Hawley would also be producing with JJ Abrams, director of the first two Star Trek films in the “Kelvin” timeline reboot that began in 2009 and starred Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Montgomery Scott, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov and Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy. The third and most recent film was 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, which was directed by Justin Lin and written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. Both the first and third films made an average of about $362 million each film, but the second one, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, interestingly made around $467 million.
Paramount is also developing a spinoff film that Quentin Tarantino is considering to direct, potentially as his rumored tenth and final film. If Tarantino does eventually choose to direct, JJ Abrams will produce the film. The screenplay is currently being worked on by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith.
We will update you as soon as there is more information available about the upcoming Hawley-Star Trek film or the potential Tarantino-helmed spin off.
