Noah Baumbach Signs Multi-Year Film Deal with Netflix

It looks like Noah Baumbach and Netflix aren’t planning on separating anytime soon. After two successful features together, Baumbach has signed multi-year deal to write and direct films for the streamer. Both The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) and Marriage Story launched on Netflix and earned high praise from critics and audiences. The latter received five Oscar nominations and earned Laura Dern a win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

“When I started in the film industry I dreamed of having a home,” Baumbach said. “It took me about 25 years but it was worth the wait. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be making movies with… everyone at Netflix, who are wonderful collaborators and friends and family.”

Baumbach is currently in pre-production on the first film that will be a part of the new deal, White Noise, an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name. Marriage Story’s Adam Driver is set to star in the film alongside the Oscar-nominated director of Ladybird and Little Women, Greta Gerwig, who is married to and has frequently collaborated with Baumbach in the past.

“Noah tells authentic and universal human stories,” said Netflix film chief Scott Suber. “I’m equally honored and excited to be able to collaborate on a third project with Noah, to have Netflix be a home to more of his projects and continue to have him do what he does best — make really great movies.”
