A reimagining of the classic thriller story American Psycho is taking shape from director Luca Guadagnino. Although recent rumors were able to stir up quite an upset regarding the topic of gender swapping the main lead, new reports are indicating this will not be the case.
For many, the name American Psycho evokes the image of Christian Bale leading the 2000 production from Mary Harron. The story follows his unusual day-to-day routine as a high-earning banker on Wall Street, but the tedium and mundanity of life have driven him to commit terrible acts.
Although Bale has other highly iconic roles, such as Batman or his work in The Prestige, American Psycho remains among his most universally praised works. Despite the iconography of his performance, a report came out that Guadagnino’s take on the story would swap the gender of Bale’s character, going so far as to even suggest that Margot Robbie would be cast. The report in question was sourced from a UK tabloid.
Deadline was able to state, thanks to their own sources, that this will not be the case. While they were able to reveal the news, Deadline also noted that there hasn’t been an actor lined up to play the role of Bateman yet. There are plenty of rumors about who could take the role, but there’s been no concrete casting.
