Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries is making a huge push in her career, as the actress is set in star and executive produce an independent comedy titled Sick Girl, according to Deadline. Jennifer Cram, the long time casting director of Showtime’s hit drama Ray Donovan, will forgo her directorial debut on Sick Girl and instead act as a feature writer on the project.
Outside of Dobrev, the film will feature a predominately female-driven cast compiling of Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Koenig, Hayley Magnus, Dan Bakkedahl, Brandon Mychal Smith and Ray McKinnon in supporting roles. The film centers around Dobrev’s character Wren Pepper, who feels that her core group of close friends are decaying. In a small fib, Wren rips the fabric of their lives apart and takes them on an unexpected journey.
The film will be funded by the production company Whereabouts Unknown with Sean McEwen, Cassidy Lunnen, John Papsidera, and Jessica Wilde serving as producers. Takashi Cheng, who previously collaborated with Dobrev on The Vampire Diaries, will accompany her in the executive producer’s chair.
Dobrev is coming off the cancellation of CBS comedy Fam this year, which only lasted a single thirteen-episode season. She is represented by CAA, Lighthouse Management and Media and HJTH.
