Brian De Palma fans take note. The famed director has a new project in the works, slated to star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Christina Hendricks. The project in entitled Domino and centers around murder mystery in Copenhagen. Petter Skavlan (writer of the Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki) penned the screenplay. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to note this development.
The story centers on a police officer (Coster-Waldau) attempting to hunt down the suspect who killed his partner. With the aid of the deceased’s mistress (Hendricks) and fellow cop, they are drawn into an intricate cat-and-mouse game that involves a scheming CIA agent and charts a journey from Scandinavia to Spain. Sales for Domino are slated to commence at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival.
De Palma, of course, comes with an iconic pedigree that includes classics that range from Carrie (1976), Blow Out (1981), Scarface (1983) and The Untouchables (1987). In the last decade, he directed the Hollywood noir The Black Dahlia (2006), the war thriller Redacted (2007) and the mystery Passion (2012) starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace, of which received fairly muted reception from critics and moviegoers. The famed filmmaker was also recently the focus of the documentary De Palma, directed by Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow.
Domino may get some added attention due to the bases which television stars Coster Waldau and Hendricks bring to the project. Coster-Waldau famously portrays Jaime Lannister in the HBO phenom Game of Thrones; his recent film work includes roles in Gods of Egypt, the comedy The Other Woman and the horror hit Mama. Hendricks, forever known as Joan on Mad Men (a role that earned her six Emmy nominations), has previously been seen on screen in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011) and The Neon Demon (2016); she most recently appeared in the comedy Fist Fight.
