Stoney Lake Entertainment has released a new trailer for this fall’s remake of Left Behind, based on one of the most recognizable brands in Christian literature besides, of course, the Holy Bible. This new Left Behind stars Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray and Jordin Sparks as some of the many people left behind after the rapture.
Left Behind spawned a popular New York Times Bestseller series, a 2000 movie starring Kirk Cameron, and (incredibly, considering the shellacking it took from critics and the box office) a pair of sequels.
This year is about as good a year as any to release a Christian-related movie. Darren Aronofsky’s controversial Noah may not have proved the juggernaut Paramount was hoping for, but it topped the box office in late March and looks profitable after its worldwide release. Some of the biggest box office surprises of the season, Heaven is for Real, God’s Not Dead and Son of God have all managed to transcend their seemingly niche markets. Left Behind, with Cage at the fore, certainly hopes to be carrying on this trend. It’s due in theaters October 3rd.
