Director and writer Andrew Niccol has joined forces with Vendôme Pictures once again to create a sequel to the 2005 crime drama, Lord of War. This sequel, titled Lords of War, will also be starring Nicholas Cage as he reprises his role of Yuri Orlov, and it will introduce Bill Skarsgård as Orlov’s son (Deadline).
The main conflict for the sequel is expected to be a rivalry between Orlov (Cage) and a son he never knew he had, Anton (Skarsgård). Beyond selling guns, Anton is also developing an army of mercenaries in order to fight in the Middle East.
Niccol has said about the film: “There is so much more to explore with these characters. Plato said it best – ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”
Given Niccol’s many accomplishments as a director and writer, it is no surprise that he is excited to revisit this world again. Niccol was nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay of The Truman Show and has written many other screenplays such as Anon, Good Kill, and The Host.
