Nick Reiner, son of Rob and Michele Reiner, was charged today with the murder of his parents after being held on suspicion in the days after their deaths. The couple was initially found dead on December 14, and since then, more details from the investigation have been emerging.
According to CNN, he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of the couple. Additionally, CNN reports he is facing a special allegation that he used a knife, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Los Angeles-based attorney Alan Jackson is representing Nick Reiner. Jackson has represented numerous famous clients, his most recent success being the defense of Karen Read, who in June was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter charges in the death of her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, in 2022. Jackson also represented Kevin Spacey in a 2019 sexual assault case in Massachusetts. The charge was dropped by prosecutors “due to the unavailability of the complaining witness,” the court filing said.
Jackson is best known for defending Harvey Weinstein against rape and sexual assault charges, which ended in a conviction and a 16-year sentence. Jackson told reporters, “I can’t comment,” when asked how he became associated with the case or who would pay his fees.
Nick Reiner will be held without bail pending an arraignment that was scheduled for January 7, 2026.
Jake and Romy Reiner, Rob and Michele’s second son and daughter, released a statement asking for privacy after the death of their parents. The statement reads, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.” The two siblings also expressed gratitude for the messages of support from family, friends and strangers. The statement continued, “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
