Samuel L. Jackson may just appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel film. After unsuccessful assassination attempt in Captain America: Winter Soldier and a brief appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the iconic former S.H.I.E.L.D. leader may get to interact with another essential member of the Avengers: Captain Marvel, played by actress Brie Larson.
Jackson has made his mark not just on the MCU, but in the comics as well. Before he ever appeared as Fury on the big screen, Jackson’s image also became a part of the comics, as Fury’s look was remodeled so that he would resemble Jackson. Made in 2001 by Mark Millar, this decision ultimately ended up shaping the MCU’s films for years to come. While the trajectory of his character in the film is yet unknown, it’s entirely possible that he can help connect Captain Marvel to the rest of the Avengers, as Black Widow, Falcon, and Captain America are some of the only people who know that he is still alive after he faked his own death. Classic Fury.
Captain Marvel is a staple of the Avengers in the comics, making it natural that the man behind the team will have a role in the film. Larson will be playing one of the many incarnations of Captain Marvel: Carol Danvers, who is also known as Miss Marvel during various phases of her presence in the comics.
While the first Captain Marvel was male, another woman actually took on the title after him. That achievement actually belongs to Monica Rambeau, also known as Pulsar, who took on the role thirty years before Danvers. While there is no word on any potential presence for Rambeau in the films, it seems that comics history has given the upcoming films a lot of interesting opportunities.
Captain Marvel is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019.
