They’re assembled, but they’re not quite The Avengers. Thunderbolts* charged into theaters this weekend with a splash at that box office and praise from audiences and critics alike, with a special congratulations coming from a specific Marvel actor.
The Thunderbolts* assembles a team of past rogues and villains from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, forcing them to band together to keep a powerful force at bay. Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and Wyatt Russell, among other talents, headline the film, and are slated to appear once again in Avengers: Doomsday.
Also appearing in Avengers: Doomsday is none other than Robert Downey Jr., playing Victor Von Doom. Downey, of course, was responsible for playing Tony Stark back in the film that kicked off the MCU, Iron Man. Ahead of his return to Marvel, Downey checked out Thunderbolts* and had many positive words for it on Instagram.
Hollywood Reporter notes that Downey called the film “cool, fresh, and deep” in the post, while expressing his enjoyment with the film. Downey was even joined by several other Marvel cast members as well, including a fellow member of the original Avengers, Chris Hemsworth.
Thunderbolts* and the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps are the last films before the Avengers assemble once again in Doomsday. With moviegoers already digging adamantly into Thunderbolts*, fans are now looking to Fantastic Four to see if it will offer a taste of just how Downey’s Doom will fit into the story.
