New Writer Brought in for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

As it turns out, the concluding film to the newest Star Wars trilogy will have one more pair of hands on deck! Writer Jack Thorne will be helping rewrite Episode IX, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Thorne has written for shows like Skins and Shameless, as well as upcoming films like Wonder and The Sandman. Derek Connolly (Kong: Skull Island) and the film’s director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) both created the script that Thorne will now be assisting them with, which will hopefully result in an improved narrative.

It seems like rewrites and reshoots to original material from the new age of Star Wars are commonplace, ranging from JJ Abrams deciding to let Poe Dameron survive in Episode VII: The Force Awakens; to rewrites for the upcoming Episode VIII: The Last Jedi; to the untitled Han Solo film debacle and its many changes.

Additionally, rewrites are not necessarily a cause for concern. Many times in franchises, they are based off of audience reception and function as a sort of quality control so that the scripts can ultimately become more polished.

There are still a couple years left to go before audiences can see the final product. Episode IX will hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
