A new trailer for the documentary Chain Reactions has been released. The documentary explores the legacy of 1974’s horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre through the perspectives of five creatives, who all detail how the film has affected them over the years: horror author Stephen King, actor Patton Oswalt, Audition director Takashi Miike, Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama, and film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas.
The documentary is directed by Alexandre O. Philipp, who has previously directed other Fandom and filmmaker-oriented documentaries like 78/52, Lynch/Oz, Memory: The Origins of Alien, and The People vs. George Lucas. The trailer opens with an introduction by Phillip, who describes that the documentary “will forever change the way you look at the film. “Buckle up. ‘Cause the buzz isn’t just back. It’s here to stay,” says Phillip later in the trailer.
Chain Reactions has made its way around the festival circuit, receiving pretty unanimous positive reviews. The documentary currently holds a 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Deirdre Crimmins from Rue Morgue Magazine describes that the film “does not try to be anything it is not” and explains her appreciation that “It lets its interview subjects take their time and speak their mind. It is not trying to break any news or create new conspiracy theories. It is just five smart people talking about a great film.”
