The release of new trailers during the Super Bowl has been nothing short of exciting. A new trailer for Twister dropped 28 years after the original box office hit was first release.

The original Twister was released in 1996 directed by Jan de Bont. This year director Lee Isaac Chung is releasing a reimagining of the film. The movie stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones.

The movie is set to be released in mid July, but fans got a sneak peak at the action that is to come for fans of the movie.

Glen Powell told Vogue last year that the new movie will not just be a remake of the original, “It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one. It’s a completely original story. There are not characters from the original movie, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern-day.”

Screenwriter Mark L. Smith shared Powell’s thoughts in an an interview with Collider, “It’s a lot of fun. [Director Lee Isaac Chung] did his own thing to the script a little bit because that’s what they do, so I don’t knwo about some of the changes exactly. So, I don’t know the details, but it’s a separate story. It’s a continuation of the original. But it’s just a real wild ride with some good, fun characters. Hopefully, we can tap into what the original had because that things is just iconic. But it’s so cool to have a director like Isaac taking on something like this. It’s just so out of his norm, and I think he’d having fun. I was texting with him a couple days ago, and it’s just all craziness of it.”

Alongside Powell and Edgar-Jones, the film stars Katy O’Brian, Kiernan Shipka, Maura Tierney, Anthony Romaos, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, and David Corenswet.

Twister will be in theaters on July 19, 2024
