It feels like only a few weeks ago that we were bringing news of a trailer dropping for Hercules: The Legend Begins, and now we’ve got a trailer for a brand new Hercules movie: The Legend of Hercules. Wait, no…actually, this is the same movie with a new title. Perhaps the people at Millennium Films (the movie’s producers) or the people at Summit Entertainment (the movie’s distributors) though their Hercules movie starring Kellan Lutz with a subtitle was a little too similar sounding to another Hercules movie starring Dwayne Johnson with a subtitle, Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Regardless, it’s still a new trailer rife with shirtless men and slow-motion-heavy action pieces.
One interesting thing to note about this trailer (all of the film’s trailers really) for a film based on Greek mythology is there’s very little Greek mythology on display. Other than Hercules’ (whose Greek name is actually Heracles) superhuman strength and use of some kind of lightning sword, there’s no mysticism to be found: no gods, no monsters – which normally essential to the Hercules story. Though The Legend of Hercules may not be going the route of Troy (2004) – which cut out Gods completely from its story – it may be taking ques from films like the Conan series, where magic and gods are present but in very small doses. The film’s cast list does, however, credit Serbian actor Rade Serbezija as Chiron – in Greek lore, a centaur (a half-man, half-horse creature) who mentored many famous heroes, such as Jason, Achilles, Ajax, and Theseus.
