A24 has become a huge opportunity for horror to hit the mainstream. Anytime a small indie project gets picked up by them, it’s for sure getting talked about immediately by he casual audience. And it further proven by the response to the second trailer for ‘undertone’.
As per the description, ‘undertone’ is a film about a podcast host who covers scary content and moves in with her dying mother to care for her. When she’s sent recordings of a pregnant couple’s paranormal encounters, she discovers their story parallels hers, with each tape pushing her toward madness. From that description alone, with the most recent trailer, the online reception is hyped. The second trailer has accumulated 3.2 million views in only a day, with it’s first now sitting at 8.3 after 4 weeks. It’s safe to say that people are definitely interested. Then there is only one more question: what’s the story behind this story?
It all starts with Ian Tuason. He is both writing and directing ‘undertone’, with it being his feature film debut. His producers Dan Slater and Cody Calahan both got the movie picked up by A24 after the films festival run, which included a premiere at Fantasia and screenings at Sundance.
So, it’s no stretch to say that Ian Tuason is one lucky filmmaker. And that this film is certainly one that will have an audience when it arrives. And if you want to see this for yourself then go see it, only in theaters, on Friday, March 13th.
