Ben Stiller’s first directorial effort since 2008’s Tropic Thunder is already garnering awards talk. The two minute trailer that was recently released for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty shows Stiller in the titular role as a timid magazine employee who dreams of being bold, adventurous, and winning the love of his office crush (Kristen Wiig). Mitty’s wish is granted as he is hurled into a real life adventure to find a missing photo negative.
Much of the dazzling scenery that can be found in the trailer was shot in Iceland, and the song “Dirty Paws” by Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men serves as the trailer’s background music.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a remake of the 1947 film starring Danny Kaye and is loosely based on the 1939 short story by James Thurber. The script has been adapted by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness).
The film is due out on Christmas 2013 and boasts a supporting cast of Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Shirley MacLaine, Kathryn Hahn and Patton Oswalt.
