Your friendly neighborhood arachnid-super hero may have received a new title for his third franchise reboot. The speculated name is to be Spider-Man Homecoming. This is following the brief but expected cameo of the webslinger in the latest trailer for Captain America: Civil War where actor Tom Holland (The Impossible) will make his Spider-Man debut. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield previously essayed the role.
As if no one would be paying attention, BBC/Empire noticed that Sony Pictures, the parent company who owns the rights to Spider-Man despite his appearance in the MCU, registered the domain SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com. Though that’s not a whole lot of official news to grasp on, bare in mind a domain name has provided intel on a proposed franchise title before, as was the case with the James Bond title Skyfall. Perhaps to keep us all on your toes, Sony has also registered the following domain names:
- SpiderManComingOfAgeMovie.com
- SpiderManGreatnessAwaitsMovie.com
- SpiderManSuspendedMovie.com
‘Homecoming’ references a Marvel’s 1980s comic-book run that features cameos from both Captain America and Iron Man. Don’t get your hopes up for any cameos from Chris Evans and Robert Downy Jr. however. Civil War is their last appearance in a Marvel movie until until Avengers: Infinity War – Part I, however it opens the door for that possibility consider the melding of the worlds. The film is to be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and is planning on a July 17 release. Oscar winner Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) and Zendaya will also appear in the film. Spidey will make his debut this May in Captain America: Civil War due in theaters on May 6th.
