New ‘Snowpiercer’ Trailer and American Release Date

In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off all life on the planet except for a lucky few that boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system evolves.

Thus reads the official synopsis for Bong Joon-ho’s futuristic, dystopian, adventure film Snowpiercer. Sounds pretty exciting, right? Well, apparently Harvey Weinstein didn’t think so. In fact, he was so concerened about our American inablility to process drama without constant explosions and punching inbetween he decided to get in a feud with Bong over the imported cut of the film. Which is why American audiences are getting the film nearly a year after it came to Korean theaters.

After watching the latest trailer for Snowpiercer, you may be wondering, “What was Mr. Weinstein’s problem?” Unless the action scenes we get here are literally all the action in the entire show. But, if this is just a tease of what’s to come; and if they’re coupled with the tension and studies of the human condition we’ve seen in past trailers, this appears to be a well balanced film with the potential to excite the eyes as well as the mind.

Snowpiercer gets its long overdue U.S. release June 27, 2014.
