A short sneak peek has been released by Collider for the upcoming body horror/Coming-of-age hybrid, The Plague. The film, which is set in 2003 at an all-boys water polo camp, follows a socially awkward boy who befriends another boy who gets bullied by the other kids at the camp after getting a mysterious rash the other boys call “the plague” leading the two boys down a spiral of body horror and psychological turmoil. Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis, taken from the description of the trailer:
At an all-boys water polo camp, a socially anxious twelve-year-old is pulled into a cruel tradition targeting an outcast with an illness they call ‘The Plague.” But as the lines between game and reality blur, he fears the joke might be hiding something real.
The Plague premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and currently holds a 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is the feature writing and directing debut of Charlie Polinger. Joel Edgerton, most recently known for his critically acclaimed performance in the historical drama Train Dreams, plays the camp’s counselor, Daddy Wags. In addition, Edgerton serves as a producer on the film. The film also stars Kayo Martin and Kenny Rasmussen.
IFC Films will be releasing The Plague in limited theaters on December 24th. The Sneak Peek can be viewed here, courtesy of Collider. The film’s trailer can also be viewed below:
