New ‘Overlord’ Trailer Sends Soldiers to the Depths of Horror

In producer J.J. Abrams newest sci-fi thriller, Overlord‘s trailer, we see what looks to be a classic film of American soldiers fighting for survival with a new and gory twist.

The trailer opens with a shot of Boyce (Jovan Adepo) as he nervously awaits his incoming mission on a fighter plane. Through his internal monologue, we learn just how sudden and life-altering this supposed war has been on himself as well as everyone else. Just two months before, as Boyce says, he was “mowing his front yard,” but now he’s on his way to unknown horrors.

Almost immediately after this,  the real action starts. There’s an apparent attack on the hoard of planes that Boyce and all of the other soldiers are on, and after massive explosions and jumping for their lives, only four soldiers are left standing. Trapped in France, the American soldiers need to fight for their lives against both opposing soldiers and a what looks like a killer infection beyond their realm of understanding.

What follows in the rest of the trailer are gory horrors, terrifying and undead creatures, a virus that is slowly taking over all of our fallen heroes, and some classic 80’s rock.

It is rumored that Overlord is an extension upon the well-known Cloverfield universe, but there is no explicit word on whether the rumors are true. Either way, the film looks to be packed full of every thrill-lover’s favorite kinds of gore and terror.

Other cast members include Iian De CaesteckerWyatt Russell, and Pilou Asbaek.

The film is directed by Son of Gun‘s Julius Avery, and it is distributed by Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot.

Overlord is set for release on November 9, 2018.
