Earlier this morning, Nintendo held another Super Mario Galaxy Movie-themed Nintendo Direct, in which Yoshi was announced to serve a prominent role in the film. The direct was led primarily by a new trailer which provides an extended look at the character. Other characters from the Super Mario series are also briefly seen throughout the trailer, including Birdo and Mauser from Super Mario Bros 2.
After the trailer concluded, the Direct’s host, Super Mario series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, spoke about Yoshi’s role in the film, beginning with a brief history of Yoshi’s appearances in the Super Mario video games, before then saying, “For this movie, we collaborated with the artists at Illumination to bring Yoshi to the big screen.” Miyamoto then moved the Direct over to Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, who revealed that the animation for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been fully completed, the movie has moved into Post-production, and that the production is now focused on the sound and musical aspects. “This is one of my favorite moments in the life of a production,” Meledandri says at the end of the Direct, “Where we [Illumination] begin to experience all the visual and sonic elements coming together. We can’t wait to share the movie with you in April.”
After the direct concluded, it was announced that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now be released in the U.S on April 1st, 2 days earlier than its original release date. This release date aligns the U.S release date with that of other international territories.
