The upcoming Lionsgate movie titled Hurry Up Tomorrow is a thriller by the same name as the album released at the beginning of the year by The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye. The album will also serve as the movie’s soundtrack. The music aspect of the film was used during promotion as the two stars, The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega, stopped by Coachella to discuss the upcoming film.
Deadline referred to the promo as a “meet-and-greet style publicity appearance.” The pair were at Coachella during the second weekend from day 1 to day 3 and promoted Hurry Up Tomorrow over the 3 day period. They took over the ferris wheel and gained traction for the film’s release.
Ortega said the movie was difficult to describe and she has not “seen a movie quite like it. It’s very soulful. It feels more like an experience, and when you go into it with that mentality, it makes sense.” The film is promised to be a twisty thriller.
The film was directed by Trey Edward Shults and written by Shults, Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Tesfay and Fahim also produced the movie along with Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss. Besides Tesfaye and Ortega the cast includes Barry Keoghan, Riley Keough, Charli D’Amelio and others. The film’s website summarizes the plot as “a musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence” has curated some buzz due to the Coachella promotion. Hurry Up Tomorrow will be available only in theaters on May 16.
