The new spinoff from the John Wick series, aptly named From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina, is on the cusp of release. While one spinoff is almost complete, another has been given an update from a key cast member.
John Wick: Chapter 4 saw many threats come John Wicks’ way in his efforts to clear his name, one of them being Caine, played by Donnie Yen. Caine became a key player in the film, serving as an assassin forced to work against Wick if he has any hope of protecting his daughter.
The end credits scene for the film went as far as to set up a conflict for Caine, with a character from earlier in the film attempting to confront him for his actions.
MovieWeb noted that a film focused on the character is in development, although it hasn’t gotten very far as of yet, with no director attached to the project.
However, a recent development from Yen himself indicates that he may end up in the director’s chair for the film.
Yen, when speaking to Collider, revealed more details as to the early status of the spinoff. Yen mentioned that there’s a desire for the film not only from the fans, but also from the studio behind John Wick itself. However, he did state to Steve Weintraub of Collider that there’s little set in stone yet.
“I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We’ll see what happens.”
Yen potentially directing this film will not be the first time he’s sat in the directors chair. He’s both starred in and directed several action films out of Hong Kong, such as The Prosecutor and Legend Of The Wolf.
