New International Trailer for Sean Penn’s ‘The Gunman’ Surfaces

A new international trailer for The Gunman has surfaced, showing us a little more detail on how sniper Sean Penn’s mission went wrong. “We thought we were helping – it didn’t work out that way.”

The thriller, the actor’s first on-screen appearance since 2013’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, centers on Jim Terrier (Penn), a special forces operative suffering from PTSD. When an assassination attempt goes horribly awry, Terrier is forced to go on the run in attempt to clear his name, and try to reconnect with his life-long love. The thriller, from Taken director Pierre Morel, is based on the best-selling Jean-Patrick Manchette novel The Prone Gunman. Penn is joined by an all-star cast that includes Idris Elba (the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron), Ray Winstone (The Gunman), Mark Rylance (recently cast in Steven Spielberg’s The BFG), and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men).

Morel directs from a script by Don MacPherson (1998’s The Avengers) and PeteTravis (director of Dredd). The Gunman is slated to open in the U.S. on March 20, 2015.
