Brand new photos of the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, shocked fans with stills of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. On Instagram, director Todd Philips shared an image of Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Joker/Arthur Fleck jailed inside a cell and an image of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn gazing up at Joker; in contrast to Quinn’s usual makeup-heavy look, Gaga sports a much more mundane look. Philips captioned the photographs: “Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year.”

Philips hasn’t been the only one teasing the Joker sequel. In April, Gaga shared an official photo of herself as Harley Quinn on her social media, stating, “That’s a wrap. X, Harleen.”
The first Joker’s gross exceeded $1 billion at the box office in 2019 and won Phoenix a Best Actor award. Folie à Deux, which translates to ‘shared psychosis’ in French, is allegedly a musical of Joker and Harley Quinn’s blossoming toxic relationship. Though Gaga will replace Margot Robbie as Quinn, this film will not be a part of Peter Safran and James Gunn’s new DC universe. Robbie shared her thoughts on MTV News about Gaga’s rendition, “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”
Joker: Folie à Deux drops in theaters on October 4, 2024
