Aladdin, a Disney classic, is brought to life in the new live-action film. A full-length trailer was recently released, featuring lively clips of streets in the fictional Arabian city of Agrabah. It opens with a recognizable scene from the animated version where the main character, Aladdin (Mena Massoud), steals from the market and makes an elaborate escape from the palace guards chasing him. A short moment later, Aladdin makes his first encounter with Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) in the market square.
The adventurous and musical tenets of the film start when Aladdin meets Genie (Will Smith). Audiences expecting a blue-faced genie like his animated counterpart are met with a surprise when he is found speaking to Aladdin outside of the Cave of Wonders without a blue face. The infamous magical carpet scene will definitely make an appearance in the film as the trailer ends with the song, “A Whole New World.”
Disney has been producing various live-action films based on their animated versions. Other new live-action films include Jon Favreau’s The Lion King and Tim Burton’s Dumbo. Mary Poppins Returns, a take on its 1964 animated version, earned $347 million at the box office, according to Variety.
Aladdin is set to show in theaters on May 24th. Watch the trailer below.
