Harry Potter fans have a magical excuse to watch MTV this year. The spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, inspired by the world of Harry Potter is getting a sneak peak during Sunday night’s broadcast of the MTV Movie Awards. The footage is reportedly to be presented by Newt Scamander himself, or as he’s known by his muggle name, Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything).
This will be the first time in five years that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opened in summer of 2011) will make an appearance on the big screen. However, don’t expect an appearance from the boy who lived, as Fantastic Beasts centers on Scamander, a magizoologist who arrives in 1926 New York with a magical suitcase filled with exotic creatures. Some of those specimens escape, running loose at a time when wizards stayed hidden from the No-Maj (non-magical people in U.S. parlance, or Muggles if you’re British). The film also stars Colin Farrell (The Lobster), Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Jon Voight (Ali) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). The director is Potter vet David Yates.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will be distributed by Warner Bros. and set to be released this November 18. The MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday night at 8 PM E.T. on MTV. Revisit the magic with the first trailer below:
