Dracula is one of the most iconic supernatural villains ever created. The Prince of Darkness gave Universal its famous run on horror films in the 1930s. Universal Studios is now rebranding its iconic horror film into a horror/comedy movie set to release in April 2023. The actor to play Dracula is Nicolas Cage, best known for playing Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s National Treasure. Nicolas Cage found his movie success in the early 2000s but has recently been out of Hollywood.
X-Men actor Nicolas Hoult will be playing Renfield, a character whose loyal to Dracula. With the movie titled Renfield, the conflict of the movie may be Renfield trying to become a vampire as did in Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel.
Renfield will include star cast Awkwfina from Shang-Chi, Ben Schwartz from this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Adrian Martinez from Blacklist Redemption, Bess Rous starred in 2016’s Ghostbusters, Shohreh Agdashloo from The Expanse, and James Moses from Queenpins.
Universal has brought in director Chris Mckay, who is well known for his comedy movies The Lego Batman Movie and The Tomorrow War, and Emmy-winning screenwriter Ryan Ridley, known for his successful comedic writing on Rick and Morty.
Renfield looks to have fantastic casting, directors, and writers. The film has recently started filming and will be released sometime in April of 2023.
