Deadline has just announced that Matthew Gray Gubler and Angela Sarafyan will star as the leads in the pagan comedy King Knight, written and directed by Suburban Gothic writer/director Richard Bates Jr. The film will be Bates Jr.’s fifth feature and is, as described by Deadline, “about a High Priest of a modern-day coven who confronts his past as an all-American prepster.”
Also starring in supporting roles are AnnaLynne McCord, Nelson Franklin, Emily Chang, Johnny Pemberton, Josh Fadem, Kate Comer, Andy Milonakis, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Shane Brady, Barbara Crampton, and Ray Wise.
Both Gubler and Sarafyan have experience in the world of television, with Gubler’s run as criminal profiler Dr. Spencer Reid in CBS’ Criminal Minds ending with the shows fifteenth and final season, and Sarafyan starring in HBO’s Westworld as Clementine Pennyfeather. As for feature films, Gubler voiced Simon in Tim Hill’s 2007 Alvin and the Chipmunks and its three sequels and starred in Bates Jr.’s Suburban Gothic alongside Kat Dennings back in 2014. Sarafyan recently starred in this year’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
There is no information yet on when filming is expected to happen nor when we can expect the film to be distributed, but stay tuned for updates.
