The highly anticipated X-Men spinoff Deadpool arrives in theaters next year, and two new cast mates have just been added to the roster alongside Ryan Reynolds. Gina Carano (Haywire) and T. J. Miller (HBO’s Silicon Valley) are both now attached to the project, with Carano’s role confirmed to be Angel Dust and Miller’s role as comic relief not tied to any set mutant.
Angel Dust is a mutant who, in the comics, is part of an outlier band of mutants called the Morlocks. In the comics, this band of outsiders live on the streets of Chicago, which may give insight into the movie’s setting, if not the plot of it all. T. J. Miller is also a part of this cast, though his role has not been revealed yet, mutant or otherwise. He’s been added for comic relief alongside the merc with a mouth, so who knows how much comedy could be packed into this spinoff.
There are also rumors about other cast members. Colossus is set for a return, though there hasn’t been word yet if the original actor, Daniel Cudmore, will be returning to reprise his role seen in the second two movies of the original trilogy, as well as Days of Future Past. There were also rumors that Ed Skrein (HBO’s Game of Thrones) would be making an appearance in this movie, but his role as a villain has neither been confirmed nor denied.
First time director Tim Miller (2nd unit director on Thor: The Dark World) is helming this adaptation, and production recently started with principal photography and costume tests. Deadpool is scheduled for a February 12 release next year, paving the way for the release of X-Men: Apocalypse later that same year.
