The newest Beyond the Lights trailer has been released by Relativity. Well known for directing and writing The Secret Life of Bees (2008) and Love & Basketball (2000), Gina Prince-Bythewood spearheaded this romance. The drama follows Noni, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Odd Thomas), as she breaks under pressure after achieving Grammy stardom.
Beyond the Lights is a British film that centers on Mbatha-Raw’s relationship with a young cop and aspiring politician, Kaz (Nate Parker). When the success nearly leads to self destruction Parker saves her. Although this bond inspires Mbatha-Raw’s creativity, their family members worry it will distract them from climbing to new heights within their careers.
Watch the trailer (below) to see how a purple-haired Mbatha-Raw “finds her voice.” It seems to be a combination of David Frankel’s The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and Romeo and Juliet.
Co-stars of this drama include the highly acclaimed Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon) and Minni Driver (About a Boy and Stage Fright).
Beyond the Lights will reach theaters this November 14.
