After months of speculation, Disney’s own Bob Iger has confirmed the title of the next film in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus. According to Deadline, the name was part of Disney’s Quarter 1 Earnings Call. Even though this is the only new information for fans of the extraterrestrial horror film series, the bright side is that the film is coming out Aug. 16, according to ComicBook.com.
Over the last few months, information regarding the cast and production crew has been revealed to excite audiences for the next Alien film since 2017’s Alien: Covenant.
The new film will not have Ridley Scott returning as director as he did with the last two films of the series; Fede Álvarez will be taking over directing, who directed films such as Don’t Breathe and the 2013 Evil Dead.
For the cast, the film will star Cailee Spaeny, who recently starred in Priscilla as the wife of world-renowned singer Elvis Presley. Also starring will be Isabela Merced (Migration), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy and Deep State), Archie Renaux (Morbius), Spike Fearn (Tell Me Everything), and Aileen Wu.
As for the plot of this new film, not much information has been officially released. However, Spaeny has revealed that the film’s story will occur between the original Alien and Aliens.
This also confirms that the film is no longer a prequel-oriented plot to the series, as the previous films, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, were prequels to the original feature.
Spaeny also revealed that the team from Aliens, directed by James Cameron, built and worked on creating the alien xenomorphs, confirming that practical effects will be in the film.
Those excited about this new film may have to wait for new information, as there is no update on when the film will release a trailer.
However, a confirmed FX series under the same name will be headed by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley, continuing the Alien hype.
Even with the series currently in production with no release date, fans of this universe will be spoiling themselves very soon with all the new content to come.
