With a new adaptation of the Harry Potter story coming to television screens soon, many fans speculate if some of the original cast members may return to the franchise as different characters. But for some Harry Potter alum, they’d only want to come back to play a specific character.
One of the most important side characters in the movie series is Neville Longbottom, one of Harry Potter’s classmates. Neville, played by Matthew Lewis, goes from a quiet and nervous student to a prominent, courageous hero, playing a critical role in the downfall of Lord Voldemort.
Lewis said he wouldn’t want to appear in the retelling of the story, set to be a television show, stating he felt everybody involved in the films did a great job in their respective roles and wouldn’t want to try to recapture that. However, the actor did have a specific character in mind if he was to play one.
“The character I enjoyed was Professor Lupin … If I was to have a go, that would be one that I’d do,” Lewis told People during the Orlando MegaCon.
While he did state that Lupin was the one he’d most want to play, Lewis went out of his way to praise Lupin’s original actor, David Thewilis.
Lewis explained that Lupin had always been a favorite of his when he read the book, and he made his decision based exclusively on the books, according to ComicBook.com.
Fans will remember Remus Lupin as the Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher from Prisoner Of Azkaban and key Order of the Phoenix member. Lupin also had a deep connection to Harry through being a childhood friend of his parents, James and Lily Potter.
