Collider reports on a new featurette from the 2022 Scream film. In this featurette, Neve Campbell, who has been appearing in the Scream franchise since the first film, shares her feelings on the iconic mask that has become the face of the franchise. Campbell remarks how on the set of the first film there were many different designs for the mask before the studio eventually chose the one that stuck with the film. Campbell enjoys seeing the mask around Halloween time, as it is a common costume even amongst children trick-or-treating.
The featurette also includes interviews with some of the new actors about their experience in the film. There are interviews with Melissa Barrera, who recently appeared as the role of Vanessa in In the Heights, and Jack Quaid, known for his role as Hughie Campbell in The Boys. The actors point out how difficult it can be to take the mask seriously while knowing it’s pop-culture significance.
Scream was first released on December 20th, 1996 and has since become one of the biggest franchises in horror. The film followed the killer Ghostface attacking a group of teenagers. There have been five films in the franchise, with the most recent film premiering January 14th, 2022. The new Scream film follows Campbell’s character encountering a new killer wearing the same Ghostface mask. Watch the featurette below.
