Netflix’s Film Division Undergoing Reorganization With New Head Dan Lin

Under Netflix’s new head, Dan Lin, the film division is undergoing a reorganization according to several sources that spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. Netflix’s features division will now be organized by genre. Though Lin only started at Netflix on April 1st, the restructuring was already in the works for more than a month before as Lin consulted with Bela Bajaria, the streaming giant’s chief content officer as well as Netflix’s film heads and some outside partners.

Before the restructuring, projects were organized based on budget, with Lisa Nishimura and Tendo Nagenda, former heads of Netflix’s film division, receiving projects that were mid to high-priced. After Nagenda and Nishimura’s departures from the film division back in September 2022 and March 2023, respectively, the division was run by Kira Goldberg, Ori Marmur, and Niija Kukyendall, who tried to reorganize the division again in an effort to streamline everything and reduce confusion.

Netflix’s current reorg came out of the desire to provide the company with an internal structure that aligns best with the needs of its film slate. Insiders have stated that the Lin-era slate will be comprised of mostly midsize offerings with a few films that have the potential to be award winners.
