On Tuesday Netflix announced it’s plan to release it’s upcoming Fear Street trilogy of films over three consecutive weeks in July. The first film: Fear Street Part 1: 1994 will premiere on July 2. The second: Part 2: 1978 premiering on July 8. With finally: Part 3: 1666 coming on July 16.
Leigh Janiak directed the films, and has said on the spaced out release schedule: “It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way — back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of Fear Street in 1994, 1978 and 1666!”
The series of films is an adaptation of the literary horror series by R.L. Stine. The films are alike the books in that they span three time periods over a period of 300 years. It centers around a group of teens who discover that the horrifying events that have haunted their town may all be all connected.
Stine, who has also famously written the Goosebumps series of books, hints that the films may need more parity guidance than his past works. “Readers know that the book series is rated PG. But the movies are rated R. That means a lot more thrills — and a lot more terror! I have seen Leigh Janiak’s epic trilogy releasing on Netflix in July and I can tell you the scares and the screams are more than I ever expected. What fun to see the horrors of Shadyside come to life!” Stine said.
