Netflix has announced that its upcoming animated film, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, will be getting a theatrical release. The film acts as a continuation of the iconic Roald Dahl story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Taika Waititi voices Willy Wonka, who aims to start a new life following a stint in prison for turning a young girl into a blueberry. Meanwhile, teenage Charlie, voiced by Kit Connor, and a group of other teens begin planning a heist to burglarize Wonka’s chocolate factory.

In addition to the film’s new release plans, more additions to its voice cast have been announced. These include Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter, Nicola Coughlan, Charithra Chandran, Samson Kayo, and Christopher Chung. The film is directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan. The announcement of this film’s theatrical release follows previous announcements of other films receiving theatrical releases. This includes the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follow-up, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is receiving an IMAX release Thanksgiving weekend this year, and Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which is receiving a wide theatrical release on Feb. 12, 2027.

Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory will have a wide theatrical release on Nov. 5, 2027, before hitting Netflix on Dec. 22, 2027.
