Netflix has just won the bidding war for Sam Esmail’s adaption of Leave The World Behind, based on Rumaan Alam’s Upcoming Novel. The Mr.Robot creator will both writer and direct the feature for the streaming service.
The film will not only see Esmail at the helm, but it will also reunite Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington on screen. The film’s two stars have worked alongside each other since the 1993 film The Pelican Brief.
The film is based on an upcoming novel written by Rumaan Alam. The HarperCollins novel will be published sometime this fall. The story follows a husband and wife, along with their two teenage children, who head out to Long Island in hopes of having a nice, relaxing vacation. Soon after they being their vacation, the owners of the renal property the family are staying at return and inform the family that widespread blackouts are spreading throughout the city. The family does not know who to believe. With no TV, internet or any other form of communication, the two families are forced to stay together in a tense situation.
Netflix reportedly won for the film for around $100 million, after a long bidding war with other production companies.
