Netflix continues to stay on its A-game, as the studio recently struck a deal to fund and release director Alexander Payne’s next untitled project, according to Deadline. Without a title for the time being, the film will star Mads Mikkelsen, who is currently in the midst of finalizing his contract. The film is currently being described as a father/daughter story about a Danish journalist who takes a lengthy road trip across the United States as he pens his latest story for a news publication company.
Shooting for the film will commence next month in Sweden, Denmark, as well as several locations around the United States. A handful of distributors are bidding for Payne’s film. The script was penned by Erlend Loe, with production currently being managed by Bona Fide Productions’ Albert Berger, Ron Yera, and Lizette Jonjic of Zentropa Productions.
Mikkelsen’s contract will provide Netflix with a solid awards season film for the next year or so, coming off the heels of a basketful of award winning films projected this fall. Netflix will release Payne’s film sometime in fall of 2020. Payne has previously won two Oscars for writing and directing contributions for The Descendants and Sideways, having been a Hollywood darling since his career commenced with Citizen Ruth.
