The first trailer for Train Dreams has been released online by Netflix. The film, which stars Joel Egerton (The Great Gatsby, The Green Knight), Felicity Jones (Rogue One, The Brutalist), Kerry Condon (F1, The Banshees of Inisherin) and William H. Macy (Fargo, Boogie Nights), follows the lives of a logger and a railroader in early 20th century America. It is based on the novel by Denis Johnson of the same name.
The trailer spans decades, chronicling the lives of each of the characters from beginning to end. We see characters aging in the trailer, and Felicity Jones’ character even comments, “It’s all going by so fast.” We also see lots of logging and burning down of forests, as well as the slow construction of train tracks. The film aims to tackle the personal struggles of each character, but also the ramifications of their deforestation. In the trailer, William H. Macy’s character says, “We just cut down trees that have been here for 500 years. [It] upsets a man’s soul whether they recognize it or not.”
The film was purchased by Netflix, which means it will not receive a full theatrical release. It will be debuted in select theatres starting November 7. Otherwise, the film will be available for all Netflix subscribers starting on November 21.
